A Poem

Amid the bustling station,

I looked at her for one last time.

Her wistful countenance, her crimson eyes and her damp cheeks,

Made it hard for me to breathe.

I tugged my face closer to the rusty window rails,

in a desperate attempt,

to fight the suffocation of my guilt.

As I took a deep breath,

A million memories of hers,

Scattered in my head,

back and forth like dragonflies in the wind;

I remembered how we lay together,

on the grass, talking about

our dreams and our songs,

it was the best of times;

Then I remembered, how she slipped,

the hangman’s noose around my neck,

and left me dangling on a mango grove,

Mortally wounded;

it was the worst of times.

As my head cleared,

and reason returned,

I vowed to never see her again.

After all, Shouldn’t you forget a bad past?

Suddenly the train jolted forward,

And I looked at her for one last time.
